Enoxaparin is a low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) derived from the depolymerization of standard heparin. It is an anticoagulant that works by selectively inhibiting factor Xa through binding with antithrombin III, thereby preventing the formation of blood clots.
Enoxaparin is a low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) that exerts its anticoagulant effect by binding to antithrombin III (ATIII). This binding enhances ATIII’s ability to inhibit factor Xa, an essential enzyme in the coagulation cascade responsible for converting prothrombin to thrombin. By inhibiting factor Xa, Enoxaparin prevents the formation of fibrin clots, reducing the risk of deep vein thrombosis (DVT), pulmonary embolism (PE), and other thromboembolic events.
