Mesalamine is a gastrointestinal anti-inflammatory drug widely used in ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease, and other IBD indications. It acts topically in the intestinal mucosa to reduce inflammation and promote healing.
Mesalamine inhibits COX and LOX pathways, lowering prostaglandin and leukotriene formation in the intestinal mucosa; it also reduces inflammatory cytokines and oxidative stress, supporting mucosal repair.
